Project Update 7.12.06

Date: July 12, 2006
TO: Ohio Local Law Enforcement Leaders
FROM: Chief Gary Vest, Chair, OLLEISN Steering Committee

Each of you can continue to take pride in the role you and your agency is playing to make OLLEISN an increasingly important source of law enforcement information for Ohio agencies. As of July 12th, 554 law enforcement agencies have information in the OLLEISN database. 146 more agencies are working out hardware, internet access and other local issues before they begin participating, and another group of 71 agencies are waiting for their provider to become certified. Added together, there is the potential of having 771 agencies, or 85% of Ohio's law enforcement agencies, participating in OLLEISN in the next few months! This is a tremendous accomplishment. Thank you for your participation and for the active role you continue to play in making this possible.

Below are some key items of information and actions steps that we need you to take in the next few weeks:

  1. All certified vendors that are not already submitting data to us using the OLLEISN v.2.0, are working to be re-certified on version 2.0 by July 21. This updated version will allow the sharing of all incidents, not just those that led to an arrest. It will also be the foundation for the eventual inclusion of additional data such as field interview information; suspect, witness & victim data; search warrants; registered offenders; and biometrics (i.e. mug shots, fingerprints, signatures).

If your vendor is one that needs to re-certify, OLLEISN will notify you via email when this has occurred and urge you to contact your provider to install the updated software ASAP. All agencies must be submitting data using this new version by July 31, 2006. Please do not delay contacting your provider and cooperating with them to install their new software.
  2. OLLEISN is in the process of developing some new tools to communicate its mission and importance to law enforcement, including a poster series and website to publicize local success stories using OLLEISN. If you have had a success story using OLLEISN, we would like to know about it for consideration on including it on one of the posters or on the website. Please send an email describing your success to Project Director, Ted Oakley, at OHLEGsupport@ag.state.oh.us, or by FAX to 614-761-9509.
  3. We are aware that many agencies would like to have more in-depth training regarding both OLLEISN and OHLEG. This summer we are developing a training curriculum that can be used for roll call training, train the trainer sessions, on-line training, and on-site training at local agencies. We will keep you informed of these training opportunities as they become available.
  4. Please continue to remember that we require a minimum of weekly updates from your agency to the OLLEISN database. Agencies not submitting weekly updates will be sent email notices of their delinquency. If you have technical problems preventing you from submitting to OLLEISN, first contact your RMS vendor. If they cannot resolve the problem, they will contact OLLLEISN support on your behalf. If you feel you are not getting satisfactory action from your provider, then you may contact OLLEISN support directly at OHLEGsupport@ag.state.oh.us or by calling .
